Scope and content

The subfonds consists mostly of news agency releases and articles from journals, RFE Research Background and Situation Reports but also newspaper clippings.

The records are reflecting the similar mostly economic issues in the respective target country of the Radio RFE/RL broadcasting, mainly: Agriculture, Economic Policy, Industry, Labor, Plan, Trade, Transport, Western Cooperation, but also Education, Escape, Law, Philosophy, etc. The mutual relations of the target countries and relations with other countries are covered as well.
Occasionally there are some topics that were monitored only in one of the East European countries. E.g. Euro in the Hungarian; Western Cooperatiop: Israel in the Romanian; Labor: Sex in the Polish files.

Archivist's Note

The records that belonged to the economics analysts (of the Target Area Research and Analysis and later East European Research and Analysis Department) who were attempting to look at economics of a single topic across all the countries in the bloc are divided by country and thereunder by subjects; in addition, one set of subject files was established for the “Bloc" as a whole.
