Scope and content

Contains newspaper clippings, information items, and, occasionally, transcripts of trial proceedings.

The documents in this series deal primarily with the political trials related to the 1956 Hungarian Revolution, in which people were convicted for typical 'counter-revolutionary' activities, such as: armed provocations, illegal hiding of weaponry, illegal border crossing, producing and spreading leaflets against the regime, and incitement against the state order. Occasionally, the relatives of the main convicts were also convicted for 'lighter', alleged deeds, among them document forgery. The files contain numerous lists of convicts. A separate file deals with the show-trials of renowned Hungarian writers and journalists, such as Tibor Déry, Zoltán Zelk and others.

The trial materials from before 1956 deal with the arrested social democrat leaders, cases of high treason, plotting, and activites against the people's democracy.
