Scope and content

The series consists of limited distribution reports (analyses, studies, and interpretations), some of which were, in their time, considered strictly confidential. The reports had been produced by RFE’s regional News Bureaus: Berlin, Brussels, London, New York, Paris, Rome, Stockholm and Vienna.
The topics discussed in the reports are most often cultural and political ones. Occasionally, more sensitive issues are described: (re)defection, surveillance of foreign visitors, and the general state of spirits and morale in Poland.
This series is a continuation of the Information Items. In 1971 RFE decided to anonymize the reports' sources and stopped marking the cities where the reports had been produced.
