Archival history

The archives of Democratic Charter was donated to Open Society Archives in the summer of 2002 by György Horányi, professor of chemistry at the Faculty of Sciences of ELTE University, Budapest. Professor Horányi was a founding member of Charter, acting as one of the spokesmen of the movement from the very beginning. He was also its chief organizer: he received, filed and registered the letters of support and enrolment, he was in charge of financial and organizational matters and he also collected and arranged articles in the Hungarian press about Charter, as well as preserving some of the institutional documents of the movement. Professor Horányi not only organized and registered the members of the movement, but together with his assistant he also created a computer database of the members and supporters of Charter.

In Hungarian

A Demokratikus Charta archívuma 2002-ben került a Nyílt Társadalom Archívum gyűjteményébe, Horányi György vegyészprofesszor adományaként. Horányi György a Charta egyik alapítója , kezdetektől a mozgalom egyik szóvivője és fő szervezője volt. Őhozzá futottak be a megkeresések, csatlakozó levelek, ezen felül napról napra nyomon követte a Chartával kapcsolatos sajtótudósításokat, és megőrízte a Charta alapításával és szervezésével kapcsolatos dokumentumokat. Munkatársával nemcsak gyűjtötték és rendszerezték a levelezést, hanem számtógépes adatbázist is készítettek.
