Archival history

Following the death of the filmmaker, Pál Schiffer's personal papers were inherited and stored by the daughter of the artists, and by a close friend and former colleague, Vera Pécsi. The Open Society Archives received the manuscripts, letters, press clipings, periodicals and photos in 2004. The colection was processed in 2005. Attempts were made to acquisit the rest of the archival materials of Schiffer's from MOKÉP, without success.

Scope and content

The collection includes the documentation of Schiffer's own film works from his early non-fiction films to his last feature length documentaries and film series. Records of his activities as a prominent public figure, and activist in the civil society form part of the collection, too. Manuscripts, dialogue lists, screenplays, documentation of film production, promotional materials, program brochures, press clippings, personal letters and official correspondence reflect on his activities as a filmmaker, as a membr of the opposition and as an active figure in social, film professional and civil organizations.

A Magyar Filmklubok Szövetsége, a Nyilvánosság Klub, a Magyar Történelmi Filmalapítvány, valamint a Hunnia Filmstúdió tisztségviselőjeként végzett munkájához kapcsolódó anyagokat is tartalmazza a hagyaték.
