The Reactive Citizen – A reaktív állampolgár

A program második felében levetítjük Az örökkévalóságig című, dán-finn-svéd-olasz dokumentumfilmet (75 perc, 2010) finn nyelven, magyar felirattal. A film arról szól, hogy Finnországban megtalálták a választ arra a kérdésre, hogyan tárolható biztonságosan a nukleáris hulladék akár százezer évig is.

OSA Archivum is holding a film screening and debate series, The Reactive Citizen, addressing the planned expansion of the Paks nuclear power plant in central Hungary. The deal between Hungary and Russia for the Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation (Rosatom) to build two new reactors at Paks was announced on January 14. Although this decision affects all of us, it was taken without any form of consultation.

The first event in OSA’s series The Reactive Citizen will take place on Thursday, January 23, 2014 at 6 pm in the Goldberger House at 32 Arany János Street, and is entitled The very long-term consequences of arbitrary decisions. The opening Hungarian-language address will be given by Dániel Antal, consultant at Candole Partners (Netherlands), and former head of the Hungarian Railroad Bureau, who initiated the “Constructive Dialog” program at the Hungarian Ministry of Economy and Transport to address complex questions of public policy.

In the second part of the program, we will screen the 2010 Danish-Finnish-Swedish-Italian documentary film Into Eternity (75 minutes), with Hungarian subtitles. The film presents a Finnish solution to the problem of how to store nuclear waste safely for up to a hundred years.

We cannot acquiesce to everything, or accept every decision without comment. How can we look to the future, or into our the eyes of our children, if we swallow the Paks deal whole, and with it the Russian loan, our own defenselessness and the uncertain future? Regardless of party political affiliation, responsible citizens cannot look on helplessly as the Hungarian Prime Minister decides to approve a nuclear power station that will directly affect our future and that of our children, the way he decides to build a football stadium in his own back yard.

Further details on the debate series are available in Hungarian at OSA’s Facebook page.
