Public lecture "Comrade Sisters: Gender, Bodies and Spaces in Cultural Revolution Posters" by HARRIET EVANS
Harriet Evans is senior lecturer in Chinese studies at the Centre for the Study of Democracy, University of Westminster. She has written extensively on gender and sexuality in China, with articles in SIGNS, Intersections and other journals and collections. She published La Historia Moderna de China, 1800/1949 in 1991, and her Women and Sexuality in China: Dominant Discourses of Female Sexuality and Gender since 1949 was published in 1997. She edited the widely acknowledged book on the posters of the Cultural Revolution: Picturing Power in the People's Republic of China in1999.
The lecture is related to the exhibition on the propaganda posters of the Chinese Cultural Revolution at Galeria Centralis.
