Staunch Communist Turned Oppositional Researcher

In the press photos of the collection consisting of altogether 57 pictures, we see young András Hegedüs as member of the Communist elite of the 1950s. Mostly in charge of agricultural affairs throughout his political carreer, Hegedüs sits together with Mátyás Rákosi, Ernő Gerő or Imre Nagy at a table or on a tribune against the backdrop of banners extolling the government, Socialism, and work competion; walks a field with Kliment Voroshilov; visits the agricultural fair in China; or receives a Korean delegation. A few of the pictures show an older Hegedüs presenting and leisurely talking to his audience from the times when he was a renown social scientist who had broken with his past and became an adamant critic of the regime. There is one photo in the collection in which the Hegedüs couple is posing with their six children.
